REFLECTIONS FROM CAMP!

Camp 2030

I once heard someone say: “When you gather with people from different backgrounds, you should always leave some part of you behind.” That really hit me.

Having conversations with people of differing opinions and beliefs can be challenging.

In September, I attended a camp with 200 young people worldwide. It was a great opportunity because I never thought that a 30-year-old would be able to participate in a camp. But life always surprises us, and you never know when you will get to the opportunities you long for.

For a week, we discussed the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations with the groups we were assigned to. Most importantly, we got to know one another through a list of proposed activities in the camp.

They never imagined how serenity I felt around them <3 Christal, Keane, Me, and Rund

Despite having moments of work and activities, I managed to escape for a few moments every day to reflect, and this is what I remember and learned:

  1. White privilege exists, and we are often unaware of how it can affect us.
  2. Being competitive prevents us from recognizing that the other is also capable of achieving what you can also do.
  3. Instant connections are real; they are often with people you would never think you would connect with.
  4. We lack the love and backbone to stand for what is right. In moments of injustice, we call ourselves away in fear of losing something we have.
  5. Sometimes, we get so attached to people and objects that we lose an entire experience afterward.
  6. Egoism disguises itself as rigidity.
  7. We can’t change the world if, first, we are not aware of what’s to be changed within ourselves.
  8. Music connects us.
  9. And above all: dreams become a reality when we are ready to live them consciously.

Grateful to each one of the people who met in this camp ❤️

Los latinos somos lo maximo, okay? <3
